The Flying Ducks from Dublin is one of the finest Irish ice hockey team, established in 2015. They fused with the Dublin Ducks and the Flyers. I joined in 2015 when they officially became the Flying Ducks. I was given a warm welcome by the team and the current president of the club Aishling Daly.
When I first stepped onto the ice, I took to it like a duck to water. Overtime my skill level improved and I became the integral part of the team. Unfortunately due to the lack of facilities we only have the ice for the guts of 6-7 weeks and the remainder on inline rollers.
On the upside of not having the facilities it means I get to travel more in search of ice. I have been to Scotland, Canada with my team where we got to meet Justin Trudeau and have been to Czech Republic twice. I hope to travel to Rhode Island next year as part of an exchange.
I really love the adrenaline that comes with the speed and power of the sport. I know it’s really unusual to play Ice Hockey in Ireland but that is part of the charm. I have made many friends and contacts from all over the world through hockey. It’s a fantastic sport that needs more recognition!
